Back here I posted about winning the Franklin Springs essay contest...where they sent me 10 dvd's as a prize! One of the wonderful DVD's I won is Inherit the Land.
If you click on the link you can go to the Franklin Springs website to read the whole review...here is an excerpt:

This new DVD will cast a vision for your family by providing an introductory look at the blessings found when families work in an agrarian lifestyle. We’ve traveled across the US and captured stories of families experiencing the joy of working in God’s creation. From a simple garden in a suburban backyard, to a full-fledged multi-thousand acre farm, or something in between, these stories will not only bless those that are contemplating an agrarian path, but all families that have a heart turned toward home and enjoy seeing a beautiful picture of family life.

I highly recommend this excellent DVD, and am offering a chance for you to win one right here!

A Breath of Fresh Air...

After many cold winter days, it is so refreshing today to have temps in the 60's--and open the windows to let the fresh breeze in!

I want the Holy Spirit to use Word of God to do the same thing in me. To have Him fall fresh on me...

John 14:26But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.

John 16:13Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come.

It brings the words of this song to mind:

Spirit of the living God, fall fresh on me.

Spirit of the living God, fall fresh on me.

Melt me, mold me, fill me, use me.

Spirit of the living God, fall fresh on me.

DO AS I SAY!!!...

This year my daughter is doing some intensive homemaking training to prepare for her future. :) Of course, me being a homemaker, (and her mother), I am the principle trainer at present... Honestly, this has not been a chore! It's mostly exciting and fun for me, as I see the joy my daughter has been having while learning and practicing her skills.
Not all of the teaching is cooking, or cleaning...sometimes it's verbal instruction. Things such as...don't panic if you don't have all of the specific ingredients for a recipe, learn to make do and substitute, and then I go on to give her examples (face it ladies, we hardly ever have all the exact ingredients-ya know?) Or, I might say, don't panic if you're in the middle of homeschooling your children and your mother in law calls to say she's 10 min. away and is stopping by--do the 10 Min. tidy before she gets there! (never mind that she's actually had years of practical application in that area! LOL) Hey--I did that on purpose!

So anyway, yesterday I was telling her something like this: You know, we've been concentrating on teaching you skills that you can use for your homemaking...but I want to tell you this...

don't forget that your family comes first. Don't neglect your husband or children to clean the house or decorate etc.... don't push the children that need attention aside to sew, or garden... they are your first priority, your real job. The other things are just to bless them-not replace them...

And then I said OUCH! Hey, who needs to learn here anyway?

Do as I say...Not as I (sometimes) do....

Humbly yours,

Sharri

Road Trip

My dear had off on Monday, (just before the rest of us got sick!) And we took a little road trip to get milk and butter etc... What does this have to do with a peacock you ask?
Well interestingly enough, the place we get our butter from has peacocks! Several of them as a matter of fact.
The rest of these pictures are snapshots of what we saw along the way...

Playing Catch UP

Well, we've been a little under the weather here in our house...so I'm playing catch up!

The Friday before Valentine's Day, my honey bought me these lovely flowers (and they still look this pretty today!)

That same evening, our children were babysitting for some sweet friends...so my dear and I had a nice little cozy dinner for two! Valentine's Dinner early! I made some yummy fettucini alfredo with shrimp and asparagus. Plus, I steamed some extra shrimp for peel and eat.
Also, waaaaayyyy back on Valentine's Day, our lovely daughter blessed us by making us some goodies!

One of the things she baked was a cake in her new Pampered Chef Heart shaped Bread tube. We found this new in the box at Goodwill for $1. So, she tried it for the first time...
It turned out great as you can see!
With the rest of the cake batter, she made delicious cupcakes.
We certainly are blessed!

Happy Valentine's Day!

Don't forget to give your honey an extra smooch or two today! :)
Make them feel appreciated!

How Young Men Bless Their Sisters

The opportunity that siblings have is a very special one that only lasts a few years. Here is another powerful quote from J.R. Miller explaining one of the most wonderful of these opportunities,

“A young man should be more polite to his own sister that to any other young woman under heaven; and a young woman should ever turn to her brother as the one nearest in all this world to her until a husband stands by her side. Brothers and sisters are each other’s natural keepers. They should shield each other. They should be an inspiration to each other in the direction of all noble thought and better life. They should be each other’s guardian angels in this world of danger and of false and fatal paths.”

The above is on this SITE....passage taken from below.

Just Stuff

Bri and I did a little decorating for Valentine's Day...she's got some special things she's going to make for our family to eat too. :) It was fun to spruce things up and make them different.

What do you think about this picture I snapped? I thought it was cute! Two "lovey dovey's" in the bird bath...and the heart is actually a decal on the window. :)

A lovely winter sunset...

Whatz Cookin'?

On night last week I made a huge pot of nutritious chicken soup! It was made from the carcasses of 3 organic chickens that I saved in the freezer, and it was chock full of delicious herbs.
I also made a fresh apple crisp to go with it for dessert. And, I served it with some homemade angel biscuits I had leftover from the night before.
I used my favorite dishes--my apple dishes, the flowers my hubby had given me, and a delicously scented candle to set the table.

Aren't these salt and pepper shakers that match my dishes so cute? :)

I though this dinner and setting was a nice mid-week pick me up during a cold winter night!

A Scurry of Squirrels

This is my neighbor's shed...

These are squirrels on my neighbor's shed! Lots of them!

And, they are not just content to sit ON the shed...they live IN the shed!

Can you see the Peekaboo Squirrel underneath the trim board? He's just under the big squirrel sitting upright. (You can see where the paint is worn away from their travels)

By the way, did you know that a Scurry is actually what they call a group of squirrels? They can also be called a Dray. Good homeschool question for your kids to research! :)

Tell them to click here for more animal names!

Hillbillies at Heart!

I told you we were farmer wannabe's? Well, this is proof that we are rednecks at heart! LOL This is how we like to have fun in the snow! (Our neighbors are not amused)
