Birdseed Bandit

Remember this little feeder Bri and I made?
Well...a little bandit came shortly after we hung it and
helped his greedy little self to it!

He finds it and starts to eat...

Then, if you look, you can see his little "hands" on it--he bit the string
and took off with it!

He got it on the ground and the rest is history!

Sorry the quality of these isn't good--I was taking it through the kitchen window,
and the sun was bright and there was a
reflection off the plants on the window.
It was the only vantage point I had though :)

Free At Last!

Remember our little "Crab Stowaway" that I posted about?

Well, we made another trip back to the beach last Friday, and we're happy to report
that he is indeed enjoying being free again.
Thanks to Bri taking good care of him, he survived the month at our house.

I'm so glad he never got loose in the house though! We found that
Ghost Crabs can run up to 10mph--and he did right after we let him out! :)

Chincoteague: Part 10 The Boat Tour

This post is about the lovely nature tour we took on the Island Queen.

The Island Queen is a pontoon boat. It gave us a very smooth ride!

My mom loved it!

We got to see them raising up a ship that ran aground.

Can you believe all the pelicans and other birds here!? They are all lined up!

Bri caught this bird trying to take off...see where it splashed? Neat.

We had a beautiful day to go!

Pelicans dot the sky.

A company cultivates their oysters here.

The kids loved it!

Awesome angle for the lighthouse.

We spotted some ponies!

I like the way the reflection is here.

The bridge.

This is my final post on our Chincoteague vacation...are you bored and glad it's over? I hope not!
I hope you've enjoyed seeing the pics. :)

Chincoteague: Part 8 The Wildlife

This post is just about the wildlife we saw on Chincoteague and Assateague. There is a loop in the state park that is open around 3 pm for about 2 hrs.Alot of our pictures were taken on the loop, or in the park.
The picture below however was taken in town - in front of a beauty parlor!  :)

The family below look like tiny deer, but they are actually Sika Asian Elk. The trade mark of the sika is the bright white shield on its rump - a powder-puff behind.

Sikas are 2 to 2 1/2  feet at the shoulder, weighing about sixty to eighty pounds - little guys.
I love the picture below, all lined in a row!  It was 2 parents, and two offspring. One is not pictured here.

They think there are over 1100 Sikas on the island.

Bri spotted this little snake as we were riding through the loop at the park. He was very tiny.
(Nonetheless, I was glad I was IN the van--and he was OUT)

Can you see the very well camoflauged bird below?

The cute guy in the picture below is an otter! We were fortunate to see him as they are rarely spotted.
Sorry, I couldn't get a closer shot of him--he was fast, and shy.

A well concealed bunny.

I spied this little green frog--he's cute!

Bri spotted this gorgeous fox on top of this boat! We figured there must have been a mouse or something inside the canvas and he was trying to figure out how to get it!

These Sika elk were up near the administration building right along the road--very bold!

The little squirrel below is endangered.

Chincoteague/Assateague Islands were a great choice for our family, we love the wildlife! :)

A Little Fuzzy....

This little bunny nest is in our front yard. Can you make out the little ear of one of the babies?

the pictures aren't real clear as I didn't want to disturb them too much. :)

They're totally adorable!

Of course...I do hope the little darlings don't grow up and wipe out my garden. :)

Below is the Mama Bunny. (sorry, this pic isn't great either as it was dusk) Her nest is to the right--just out of this shot.
