Hurricane Irene #2

We did a lot of prep for Hurricane Irene--including taping our big windows

Thankfully it was unnecessary as we had no damage!
We are thankful to God for that!

Our neighbor lost about 1/2 of his big tree--Brad has helped him for a few days to
chainsaw it up and haul it away
We're glad it wasn't closer to their house!

One blessing that came out of the hurricane was additional time spent w/my mom
as she stayed here during the hurricane.
Here she and the kids are all smiles because it is all over now.

And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew,
and beat upon that house; and it fell not: for it was founded upon a rock
Matt. 7:25

Hurricane Irene

Thanks to all of you who prayed for us during Hurricane Irene
It came with fury from North Carolina and visited Delaware on it's way north
Although we were fortunate enough not to have suffered any damage,
others in our state are suffering from flooding, downed trees, lack of electricity and more.

I borrowed these pics from facebook to show a sampling of what it looks like here in DE today

All of the coastal areas were evacuated, and with good reason!

They also closed all of the roads last night at 10 pm for everyone's safety

A tornado touched down in Lewes damaging 15 or more homes
The above pic was taken in our state capitol of Dover

I have pictures that I took of our area that I will do another post on--but, I just
wanted to give you an idea of our surrounding area

We were fortunate to have my mom here with us-she lives in a mobile home and was
much safer here with us.
We feel blessed indeed to have had God's protection.

Below is a shot of Hurrican Irene entering Va before she made her way up here...
We could have had a very different experience indeed by the looks of it!
I hope that you and your families are safe as well.

Hot Stuff!

It has been very hot - especially for the area we live in.
Hotter than hot! It actually wound up being hotter than predicted.
The heat index for our area yesterday was 126!

It has given me more time to read my Bible, and get some inside cleaning done
(thanks to our wonderful air conditioning!)
We really, really need rain! We are having to water our gardens daily to keep them alive!
I'm praying and hoping for rain!

And they gathered it every morning, every man according to his eating: and when the sun waxed hot, it melted.
Exodus 16:21

Hope you aren't melting today--keep cool!

Welcome Spring!

I adore Spring!
It transforms my world into my own private garden. :)
Ah...Lilacs...my favorite flower (and fragrance!)
Doesn't this red just pop!?

I love these little grape hyacinths (but they are the bane of my dear hubby!)
Spring brings with it some showery weather. This was our sky last night before it rained.
The poem below really describes how I feel! :)
I Meant To Do My Work Today
Richard Le Gallienne

I meant to do my work today,
But a brown bird sang in the apple tree,
And a butterfly flitted across the field,
And all the leaves were calling me.

And the wind went sighing over the land,
Tossing the grasses to and fro,
And a rainbow held out its shining hand--
So what could I do
but laugh and go?

Take some time to really, really enjoy the Spring! It only stays a short time!

Boy how things change in such a short time!...

Just a little less than a week ago it looked like this...

Yesterday and today it's almost 70 degrees! Here are some shots from Saturday...

And, our family has Spring fever!

These are from Sunday afternoon at our neighborhood pond...

Here are some of the things I saw at the pond while watching my men fish today...

All Iced Up!

Well, we finally did get our long awaited snow...BUT, it was chased by a good dose of ice, and then yucky rain.
I will say the ice did lend some interest to our landscape though!

It made ordinary, everday things sparkle!

You can see here the coating of ice on these branches.

Below is our front railing and bush coated with ice.

Chippy did go out and romp around a bit today, but we don't want him to get too cold. So, he spent a lot of time looking out the window at Brad shoveling snow/ice.

You can see him outside having a ball below!

If you ask me, it was a great day to stay inside by the fire--and that's just what I did! :)

Weekend Dusting

Yeah! We got a dusting of snow again this weekend! My roses want to know what is UP with this after it being 74 last Sat.....and now this! :)

I've heard it said that they are predicting some cold, snowy weather this winter!

Looks like it's getting an early start!
