Watermelon Ice Cream Recipe

Sarah asked me for the Watermelon Ice Cream Recipe
(it actually says sherbet, but it didn't taste like sherbet!)

Watermelon Sherbet
serves 4 cups

4 c. diced seeded watermelon
                   1 c. sugar
     3 Tbsp Lemon Juice
       Dash of Salt
1/4 Cup Cold Water
2 1/2 tsp (or one envelope) of unflavored gelatin
1 Cup Whipping Cream

  • Combine first 4 ingredients in a large bowl cover and chill 30 minutes.
  • Process watermelon mixture in a blender until smooth. Return to bowl
  • Sprinkle gelatin over cold water in a saucepan; let stand 1 minute
  • Cook over low heat, stirring until gelatin dissolves (about 2 min.)
  • Add to watermelon mixture, stirring well.
  • Add whipping Cream; beat at medium speed with mixer until fluffy
  • Freeze in Container (1 gallon) ice cream maker (Does not need ripening)

September is here...

We're still in the summer mode here-although it is September and we have started school. :)
Brad grew the Moon and Stars Watermelon (Baker Creek Seeds) (although this one has sun scald. :(
Along with his gardening, Brad is building a big shed

Bri has been busy harvesting her herbs-here's some lavender
It's been extremely dry here, and our trees are starting to drop their leaves

Chippy and Bingley are as cute as ever! :)
We're still getting tomatoes and peppers
I just picked the last of the green beans, and we dug some potatoes (they're yummy!)

I love these Dragon's Tongue beans (also from Baker Creek)

The butterflies and birds are here in abundance because we've been watering
and our flowers are green (unfortunately the bad insects are attracted here too)

Bri made us watermelon ice cream--it was good!
The days are mercifully cooler...Bingley is back to laying in the sun :)
We put up and tried out our new tent
(we had to get a bigger one because Brad was too long for the old one)
(I"m supervising-along with Chippy) lol
Muffy was the first one in!
The pets loved it
We had fun sleeping in it--it's huge!
What are you up to so far in September?

"By all these lovely tokens
September days are here,
With summer’s best of weather
And autumn’s best of cheer."
- Helen Hunt Jackson, September, 1830-1885

Summer is so fleeting

A few random snapzshotz of the yard and other stuff
This is Brad's Hummingbird vine...those little birds love it!
These 2 bird pics are rotten quality--but I included them anyway lol
this finch is upside down getting sunflower seeds
Bingley with his tongue out :)
He chases butterflies constantly! Here he is trying to get one
I love these--Brad took them
I took this one of Bingley and think he's sooo cute!
See how long he's getting?
My hubby picked these berries in our yard, &  I'm getting ready to have a snack
I really enjoy these raspberries--one of my fav things that we grow
Oh, and the dogs like them too...and will pick and eat them :)

Hope you're enjoying these last days of Summer!

Fun Beach Outlet Day!

We wanted to have one last fling before school starts...so the kids and I, and my niece Kelsey took off for a day of shopping the beach outlets! (my mom was supposed to come too, but sadly was under the weather) :(
Kelsey tries out a new look

Got bracelets?

Dahhllinnggg  You look Maaahhhhvelous!

Bri tries this out - my suggestion-and wound up buying it!

Kels--we hardly recognize you!
We journeyed on to the Chocolate Factory

Kids in a candy shoppe....

And they didn't come out empty handed
(Btw, that's a chocolate covered Twinkie that Kels is eating!)
Yes, the shoppe even had doggie treats--we bought one for the dogs to split :)
We saw some interesting merchandise...

These socks are neat

But this hat is horrible!

Of course we went to Grotto's...where this large lady was waiting for her pizza
(wouldn't want to argue with her!)
Notice her chin is ON the counter!

Then...onto Thrasher's Fries

Which of course is right by...
We picked a winner of a day...it was gorgeous!
A little more pressing noses against glass in the candy shoppe...
We stopped real quick to get our Fisher's Popcorn (yum!) buckets filled...
no picks of that...
then off we sped toward home--weren't these clouds interesting!?

It looked like it would storm, but never did

Back over the bridge to home!
Thankfully, Kels was spending the night, so we had an extended day of fun!
Great memories made. :)
